Surf Point and Community Plate Present Community Day #12: A Story Sharing Potluck Lunch
For this Community Day, Surf Point partners with Community Plate to present a story sharing potluck with the theme "that work of hope," inspired by the poetry of May Sarton who lived on the Surf Point property from 1973-1995 when she passed. Community Plate is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to building community through shared meals and storytelling. The lunch will be held at Surf Point as part of their 12th Community Day celebration.
Community Plate brings people together in non-partisan, cross-cultural, intergenerational spaces at Story Sharing Potlucks, a statewide series of free community events. A Story Sharing Potluck is an opportunity to engage with new and old friends and to make connections around something we all have in common: the food we eat and our family food stories. Attendees bring a dish with a story to share, an open mind and an open heart. During the lunch participants share stories around the table, and after dessert, are treated to a collection of live storytelling performances from practiced and beginner storytellers. In the weeks that follow Community Plate compiles the recipes and stories into a small community cookbook that all attendees receive to commemorate the community created. Read about past Community Plate events.
This event will include a Wild Knoll Foundation Garden plant sale with artist Carly Glovinski and new Surf Point hats. We hope you can join us for a unique gathering that combines the power of shared stories and shared food.
The lunch is free to attend, although registration is required. Participants are encouraged to bring food to share, but to ensure that there are no barriers to participation, bringing food is not a requirement. All are welcome.
Space is limited, registration is required, address provided with RSVP. See you soon!
