Surf Point x New Art Dealers Alliance
Relationships between Surf Point residents often create long lasting support systems following the residencies, and it is our hope that the gallerists form similar mutually beneficial bonds. This pilot Surf Point x New Art Dealers Alliance collaboration for summer 2025 is designed to:
offer three U.S.-based gallerists time and space for reflection and invention
foster relationships between galleries and the Maine and New Hampshire artist communities, including artists, curators, and spaces where artists can show in the future
gently combat the gravitational pull that keeps many talented artists from showing beyond regional circles
New Art Dealers Alliance put out a call to their members in February, and, through an internal application review, selected three members in April to be awarded a week long residency at Surf Point: Lauren Marinaro of Marinaro Gallery (NY), Alex Nazari of Gattopardo (LA), and Nicoletta Pollara, formerly of Night Gallery (LA).
They reviewed 150 online artist portfolios, made in person studio visits, and spoke on a panel at Surf Point’s Community Day #11, and participated in private visits around Maine with the NADA’s membership program.
Surf Point and NADA managed the application processes, communications, & marketing, managed logistics, and made connections. Gallerists pay for their travel & food costs while in residence.
Meanwhile, Surf Point put out an open call for the first 150 Maine and New Hampshire-based artists to submit work for review by the selected gallerists. The simple, free application was first-come, first-served on Artwork Archive. Gallerists selected a combined fifteen artists for visits: Elana Adler, Tad Beck, Leon Benn, Eleanor Conover, Chad Etting, Sam Finkelstein, Carrie Gundersdorf, Dylan Hausthor, Dusty Knight, Will Sears, Rachel Sperry, Emilie Stark-Menneg, Barbara Sullivan, Hannah Secord Wade, and Ellen Weitkamp.
On August 2, 2025, the residency culminated with an in-person Community Day #11 at Surf Point open to all - artists, community members, visitors, and gallerists-in-residence. All are invited to tour the residency, meet the gallerists, and partake in scheduled activities and food offerings.
