We invite you to join us on Wednesday, October 14th for an afternoon of plein air painting at Surf Point facilitated by Maine-based artist Kristy Cavaretta.
These sessions are a chance to work outside on Surf Point's 45-acre grounds, drawing inspiration from the coastline, fields, gardens, wooded trails, marshland and architecture. Each session is led by a local artist, with open work time followed by an optional sharing of work at the end of the session. Participants are asked to bring their own painting supplies and materials.
What to Expect
This is a self-guided opportunity to spend time making work outdoors at Surf Point. It is not a formal class or instructional workshop. Participants should bring whatever materials they prefer and be prepared to work independently.
After a brief welcome and site orientation, participants will walk to their chosen painting or drawing spot with their supplies. Some areas are farther from the parking area than others, so please bring only what you can comfortably carry. The event will take place entirely outdoors, rain or shine. One designated bathroom will be available.
The session will close with an optional group gathering to share and discuss work made during the session. This conversation is intended as a relaxed community-building opportunity and a way to reflect together on the experience of working on the land.

About the Facilitator
Kristy Cavaretta
Kristy Cavaretta is a Maine-based multidisciplinary artist whose meditative prints explore the beauty and imperfection found in everyday life and the natural world.
Cavaretta holds degrees in Media Arts from Boston's Emerson College and Graphic Design from MassArt. In 2012 she moved to the seacoast after a decade of working in the film industry in Los Angeles. She worked as a graphic designer until she had her first child in 2016 and continued to work as a freelance designer for organizations including the Ogunquit Museum of American Art (2015-2019) and Old York Historical Society (2015-current.) Cavaretta began printmaking in 2014 at Chases Garage in York, Maine. Since having her children she has leaned into block printing, direct object printing, and collagraph printing for their accessibility and speed.
In 2021 Maine Magazine named Cavaretta one of the years’ artists to watch, in 2023 she held her first solo exhibition at the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts. In 2025, Cavaretta was honored to be chosen as an exhibiting artist for the esteemed CMCA Biennial.
Cavaretta teaches printmaking at Chases Garage and is a visiting artist at various local educational and community institutions. In 2024 Cavaretta was honored to become a juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association and the New England Monotype Guild.
