About

Surf Point provided an invaluable escape to put together the pieces of a new body of work. The retreat created the distance necessary to see things from an elevated place free of obligations, habits, and even my own narratives about who I am in the day to day. The hum of the ocean wrapped me in a sense of comfort, its vastness pushing away my fears as insignificant and reminding me in waves that although small, I am still a unique piece of something large and magnificent.

Mission

Surf Point is a nonprofit organization on the coast of York, Maine that supports diverse visual artists and art workers through a residency; stewards 45 acres of coastal and forested land; hosts public programs; and promotes and shares research on our historic legacy.

Vision

We envision Surf Point as both a destination and a community hub, rooted in the Maine coast and connected to broader artistic and civic networks.

Values

Across all areas of our work, we prioritize renewal, access, stewardship, and community, and these values guide how we support artists, engage with the public, and care for place. We are rooted in the legacy of Surf Point while continuing to build on it through the artists and communities we support.

In Good Company

Surf Point is proud to be a member of the Artist Communities Alliance,Maine Association of Nonprofits, Aspen Institute Artist-Endowed Foundations Initiative | AEFI, and the  Archives of American Art.

Land

Most of our 45-acre property is governed by a conservation easement managed by the York Land Trust, some of which abuts the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.
